Electrolysers Uncovered: Costs, Market Evolution, and the Technologies Shaping the Future

Time: 12:55 - 13:25
Date: 3 July 2024

Synopsis

The UK currently has a pipeline of 4GW of electrolyser capacity, however, larger electrolyser capacity will be required for the UK to reach its target production capacity of 10 GW by 2030. According to the International Energy Agency, installed electrolyser capacity could be around 170-365 GW globally by 2030- depending on the project pipeline. Manufacturing capacity is expected to significantly increase in the next five years, and innovation of electrolyser technology is required, in order to meet the targets for green hydrogen production.

  • Electrolyser technology selection, and the challenges associated with each selection
  • The practical challenges faced during electrolyser operation, from technical issues to integration with renewable energy sources, and the strategies employed to address them
  • The current cost dynamics of electrolysers, the predicted state of the market in the coming years
